The time for meaningful economic development reform in Kentucky is here.
Over the last 20 years Kentucky has spent billions on economic development strategies with unsatisfactory results and without adequate evaluation.
Kentuckians are ready for something better.
Kentuckians deserve decent jobs, built on quality, innovation and skills to last a lifetime. Our government should play a key role in supporting sound, effective and accountable practices that create those jobs.
The High Road Initiative calls for good economic development that includes:
- Strong accountability that lets Kentuckians know what we are getting in return for our investment.
- Less emphasis on tax breaks and subsidies for out-of-state corporations and more investment in home-grown entrepreneurs and other strategies.
- Better training for Kentucky's workforce.
The High Road Initiative is a new effort to build a broad based network of organizations, businesses and people working together to build a strong economy across Kentucky. Through research, public education and policy reform, we seek to identify successful ways to move our commonwealth forward.
